대한소화기암연구학회(회장 김성수 가톨릭의대, 이사장 전훈재 고려대의대)가 지난 4월 1일 세종대학교 컨벤션센터 컨벤션홀에서 약 170명이 참석한 가운데 제18회 춘계학술대회를 개최했다.
이번 학술대회는 8개 세션[▲Mini-review of ASCO/ESMO GI Cancer Symposium (What's new in 2023), ▲IASGO Joint Session : Debate or Controversial Issues of GI Cancer, ▲Updates On the Treatment of Unresectable Pancreatic Cancer, ▲윤리위원회 세션, ▲Gastrointestinal Cancer: Laboratory Bench to Clinic, ▲Plenary Free Paper Presentation,▲Updates On the Treatment of Metastatic Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer, ▲Free Paper Presentation(1)(2)]으로 구성, 진행됐다.
전훈재 이사장은 “대한소화기암연구학회는 소화기관련 암을 다루게 있다”며, “항암치료는 물론 소화기관을 어떻게 잘 유지, 보존, 제대로 도와주고, 환자들의 삶의 질에 도움을 줄 수 있을지에 대한 고민들이 담겨있다”고 밝혔다.
관련하여 대한소화기암연구학회에는 ▲위식도, ▲대장암, ▲췌장담도암, ▲영양, ▲삶의질 연구회가 활동중이다.
정대영(여의도성모병원 소화기내과 교수) 총무이사는 “다학제적인 특성이 잘 반영될 수 있도록 프로그램을 구성했다”며, “최근에는 연구발표 세션도 늘여서 각 기관에서 진행중인 연구들이 잘 공유될 수 있도록 했다”고 설명했다.
실제 소화기관에 발생하는 종양은 암 자체로 인한 문제 뿐 아니라 소화기관의 기본적 기능을 침해해 발생하는 문제를 함께 가지고 있기 때문에 내과, 외과, 영양 등의 고려와 접근이 모두 활용되어야 하는 분야이다.
전 이사장은 “소화기 종양은 식도와 위, 췌장과 담도, 직장과 결장에 이르는 소화기관에서 발생하기 때문에 각각의 발생 장기 특성에 따른 차이와 함께 발생학적 동일 기관에서 기원하는 공통점을 가지고 있다”며, “현재까지 개별 학문의 특성들이 전문화와 세분화라고 한다면 미래의 학문은 융합을 통한 창조적 해석과 접근이라는 포괄성을 지향하고 있다”고 말했다.
이어 “소화기 종양은 이러한 측면에서 개별 세부 분야의 전문성뿐 아니라 인접하고 연결된 분야로서의 포괄성이 더욱 강조되는 분야이다”고 덧붙였다.
한편 대한소화기암연구학회는 2006년 4월 종양 자체 뿐 아니라 환자 삶의 기능과 질을 함께 고려한 치료를 목표로 항암연구회로 시작됐다.
지난 2017년에는 국제 외과학-소화기학-종양학 협회 학술대회(IASGO)도 유치, 국제적 수준을 입증하기도 했다.
지난 2022년에는 대한의학회 준회원 학회로 인정받아 활동중이다.
